Hi, I'm Cody,
I'm a freelance 3D Generalist, Technical Artist, and VFX Artist from Atlanta, Georgia.
Outside of freelance, I'm also the co-owner and founder of our little family-owned animation studio, called SMOUSE. You can visit us at https://www.smouse.studio
I first discovered my love for 3D art since I was 7 years old; about 17 years ago, and I've been messing around with it and learning ever since.
Since then, I've also accumulated about 7 years of hands-on professional experience, from various motion design projects, commercials, live shows & world tours, technical work (my favorite), and freelanced with some various studios.
To clarify what I do as a "Technical Generalist", I take the traditional Generalist workflow, and collaborate closely with the other artists and teammates involved to narrow down certain bottle necks, or to identify areas that could be optimized, and I work rigorously to see we can speed them up.
I will often utilize functions such as Python, Xpresso, and Userdata within Cinema 4D to build original custom tools for the team, so that everything remains streamlined for the rest of the team and the pipeline.
I also take on the nitty-gritty tasks of developing complex rigs, but also being sure to keep everything intuitive enough for the rest of the team who uses it.
Scene organization, naming conventions, and keeping things immediately readable are all super important to me, in making sure that not only do I remain efficient, but so do other artists who may handle the files.
I believe in everyone involved in a production being able to have at least some amount of say, so that we can all brainstorm, collaborate, optimize, and deliver a result to the client that not only makes them happy, but one that we can be proud of.
